The United States is facing a wide range of social justice issues in 2021-22, from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic to a new wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in the states. As a result, many people are more likely than ever to be impacted by these issues.

Political Polarization

Despite a record-breaking presidential election, political polarization remains an issue for Americans in 2021-22. According to the PEW Research Center, most Americans feel more divided than ever in their political views.

On four of the most viewed major issues today – illegal immigration, the deficit, terrorism and climate change – older adults are more likely than younger ones to view them as very big problems. For example, 57% of those ages 65 and older say illegal immigration is a major problem. But only a quarter of those ages 30 to 49 consider it to be a major problem, and less than one-in-ten younger people do so.
