The Hong Kong Lottery
The Hong Kong Lottery is one of the most popular lottery games in Asia and the world. It is run by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) which is one of the largest horse racing organizations in the world and it is a major source of income for the HKJC.
The Mark Six is a 6/49 pick-6 game where the jackpot prize can be won by matching all six main numbers drawn in each drawing. The game also has 6 other prize tiers that can be won by getting any of the other 7 numbers – called the Extra Number – correct.
There are three thrice weekly draws each week and you can play the game by choosing six numbers from a pool of 49. The odds of winning the first prize are 1 in 13,983,816.
Generally, one out of every six Hong Kong Lottery numbers will be a repeat hit from the previous draw. However, numbers that have been out for 5 or less games account for 56 percent of the winning numbers.
In addition to the thrice weekly drawings – The Hong Kong Jockey Club holds special Mark Six “Snowball” draws throughout the year which have bigger jackpots than the thrice weekly ones. The money that is won from these special draws is then used to increase the jackpot for the following thrice weekly draw.
The proceeds from the lottery are mainly used to fund various social welfare services in the community. These include sports, healthy living, education and employment, opportunities and possibilities, the cultivation of culture and arts plus a range of other causes. The HKJC has donated to over hundreds of charities and community projects over the past decade alone.
