What Is an Issue?
An issue is a topic or concern that requires analysis, discussion, and deliberation in order to find a solution or make a decision. It can be a political, personal, or business matter. It can be resolved or mitigated with a plan of action.
The term issue can be derived from the act of sending something out, as in: “The post office issued new stamps” or “He has issues.” Another meaning is the subject being discussed—a hot-button topic, for example. You may also hear people say, “I’m not going to talk about his personal life; I want to discuss the issues.”
If you’re writing an article that includes a solution to a problem or issue, be sure to organize your information in an easily accessible format. Consider using a tool like Google Docs or Workflowy to help you create an outline for your article, which will ensure that you include all the necessary components and make your content easy to read.
The words arise, spring, rise, originate, derive, flow, emanate, and proceed all have a similar meaning of coming into being or existence. They all imply some kind of growth or progress, but spring suggests sudden or rapid inception, while rise stresses gradual ascent or development. In law, an issue is a person’s lineal descendants or offspring (distinguished from heirs). In the stock market, issues refer to stocks and securities. Issue can also mean a printed volume of a publication.
