What Is Spirituality?
A spiritual person is one who finds meaning in life and believes there is a higher power. A spiritual person may use meditation, prayer, yoga, or other practices to develop a personal connection with God. It is not uncommon for people to consider themselves spiritual even if they do not belong to any specific religion. The term spirituality can also be used to describe a non-religious belief or experience such as connecting with nature, private prayer, or a deep sense of philanthropy and civility.
Spirituality is a way of life that has been shown to have many benefits including reducing stress, improving mental health, and increasing happiness. It can help us feel like we are a part of something bigger than ourselves and gives us hope that there is a purpose to our lives, whether it is to help others or simply be content with what we have.
A big part of spirituality is community, and we have found that when students are able to find a group or community to participate with on a regular basis it helps them stay motivated to continue their spiritual practice. This is why we suggest finding a spiritual community at your school, church, or organization. Having a community to support you can make the process more enjoyable and less daunting. This also can provide you with someone to help keep you on track if you get off course. Studies have shown that spiritual people tend to live longer lives. This is due to the fact that they have a more positive outlook on life, are more likely to make healthy lifestyle choices, and are more likely to get help when needed.
